3. According to the form of file, it can be divided into single file and double file. Single grain file is suitable for filing metal with soft material; double grain file is suitable for filing steel and nonferrous metal.

4. According to the number of main file lines within 10 mm length, the file can be divided into I-V sizes. No. I is coarse tooth file, No. II is medium tooth file, No. III is fine tooth file, No. IV and No. V are oil smooth file. Rough file is suitable for filing soft materials and workpieces with large allowance or low requirements, while fine file is suitable for workpieces with small allowance and high accuracy requirements.
